This past week Daddy had to go on a business trip, and we all went with him!
We left on Monday morning and got to D.C. at around lunchtime.
After we ate lunch at Subway and took Daddy to his work building, we took the younger kids to a play structure at the mall to get their energy out after the 3 hour drive.
On Tuesday, we tried to go to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, which I (Belle) was especially excited to go to, since I want to get my pilot's license. (Also, they have the 1903 Wright flyer, the Spirit of Saint Louis, and a lunar rock you can touch!!) At any rate, here's a tip if you ever go to Washington D.C.: don't try to park anywhere - ever - if you have a 12 passenger van. You will, like us, waste two and a half hours of your life trying to find a parking space without getting hit by/hitting one of the exceedingly grouchy and rude taxi drivers or a parking garage sign with clearance lower than 6' 6". We decided that since there was literally no parking spot anywhere near the museum no matter how much we were willing to pay, we would try the zoo instead, even though it was cloudy and threatening to rain.
So we did.
But first we had to eat, because it was 1:30 and we were all starving.
So we ate at the over-priced, tasteless cafeteria in the zoo. The lady at the front gave a tiger cup to Rush, after seeing how sad he was with the thought of parting with it (below).
After that we began to tour the zoo. Sorry, did I say zoo? I meant habitats. There were lots of cold, rainy habitats. Evidently nearly all the animals had had the sense to stay inside. The only ones that didn't were lions and tigers, which lay behind the glass with their backs to us coldly, and apes, which were so friendly that there was an unofficial 'orangutan selfie line' in front of their cage.
There was also an amazon/rainforest thing indoors, and that was super cool!
The room was so humid (well it was a rainforest after all!) that the camera lens fogged up! |
There were some really cool fish! =) |
After a while more animals came out, and overall it was a pretty fun trip. =)
On Wednesday, we tried for the Air and Space Museum again. Three hours later, after trying to find parking for hours (again), we decided to give up on that one and try the other Air and Space Museum in Chantilly, VA. I (Belle) personally wasn't too excited about it and I didn't think it would be nearly as awesome as the other one. After eating, though, I felt a little better, and once we walked into the place I was pretty stoked.
They were letting people get into a Cessna 150 for a few minutes and it was so amazing! I loved it!! =)
Rush loved all the planes... so much that he wanted to get closer. We had to run after him several times.
Epic selfie fail... Gabby's eyes! |
Gabby and some polka dotted planes. =) |
And then we went to Sweet Frog for frozen yogurt. 😊

And then today Lily dressed up as a gypsy.
And that's about it!
