What do you think of when you think of peace? I think of peaceful things our creator has made, like the ocean and music. But peace is much deeper than just the feeling of reading a book on a Saturday, or drinking tea and writing. A scripture verse that has really spoken to me is Romans 12:18: “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” This verse is saying that we should do everything we can to live at peace with everyone - whether it’s your sister, your neighbor or someone at church. But living at peace is more than just staying out of fights and seeing your part in an argument. Living at peace seems more like having a peaceful attitude. The definition of the word peace is ‘freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility.’ A peaceful attitude will be an attitude that will have “quiet and tranquility”.
Being a peacemaker is something that I am working on. “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” (Matthew 5:9) But what is a peacemaker? The definition of ‘peacemaker’ is ‘a person who brings about peace, especially by reconciling adversaries.’ Bringing about peace in your home is especially important. The Bible says that we can either build up our house, or bring it down (Proverbs 14:1), and being a peacemaker is a very good way to build up your house! Peace is also one of the fruits of the spirit, which means it’s important to instill in our lives.
God’s called the ‘God of peace’ lots of times in the Bible (2 Thessalonians 3:16, Romans 15:33, 1 Corinthians 14:33), which I find very interesting. “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.”(John 16:33) Because we can find peace in Jesus and God is a God of peace, I think we can conclude that peace is pretty important.-Belle :)
